Another Competition – This Time it’s a Big One!

August 12th, 2008 by Amelia

I know I’m absolutely insane. I got the bug to do a big competition. So, I thought I would do the Mid-Atlantic Competition since it is next June. It will give me enough time to come up with a design and to fund the whole thing.

So, I started last night to design a cake and I had it all figured it out. So. . . then I was looking around some more at the different competitions there are and I found the Grand National Wedding Cake Competition website. This competition is HUGE! It’s been on Food Network and people come from all over the world to go to this competition. I looked at the rules and the theme of the competition just for fun. So, the theme is “The Language of Flowers”! It fits so perfectly with the design of the cake that I want to do. So, I looked at the date of the competition and it’s in the end of September! That’s a month and a half.

I’m doing it!! I’ve got it all worked out! I’m going to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Grand National Wedding Cake Competition! Am I excited? Heck, yeah! I’m insane. But, I’m so excited. Even if I can just get a metal, it’ll all be worth it.

County Fair competition results…

August 10th, 2008 by Amelia

So, I did the cake competition! My poured sugar turned out well. I need to try isomalt next time though. The sugar was a little dark. Anyway, back to the results. I did really well, I got a High Blue ribbon and Best in Show! I’m really excited about it. I’m officially an award winning cake decorator. But it’s got me thinking about bigger competitions. I wonder how I would do on a bigger level. I’ve looked into a couple already. We’ll see. It probably won’t happen due to finances. Someday.

Here’s a picture of the cake I made. I took just a snapshot but I have professional pictures of it that will look better. They’re coming.
