I got a funny email yesterday from my good friend Paula Ames. She was my lead assistant on TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off. I was sitting at the bank waiting for my turn and I decided to check my email on my phone. I started reading this email and I could hardly contain my giggles. It was quite entertaining. I thought my baker friends might get a kick out of it, so I thought I’d share. I don’t know the source, so if anyone out there knows, I would love to give credit to the creative mind who made me smile.
Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.
Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Born and bread in Minnesota . Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half- baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.
Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

Hope you all have a good day!

September 3rd and 4th are the dates for the Eastern Idaho State Fair. The fair has had a cake decorating competition for several years. It has grown quite a bit over the last couple of years and is making quite a showing in the Midwest. I was asked last year to be a judge of the competition and I will be returning this year to judge again. Along with the judging, there will be classes offered. There will be two other judges that will be teaching as well.
We are in the process of making things final and I will post the class as soon as I know the details. I do know that the class will be on the 4th of September and that it will involve gumpaste flowers. So, mark your calendars and come to the fair!

I am excited to announce that I will be doing a segment on Good Things Utah. I love doing news segments. It’s like teaching a whole bunch of people in just a few minutes. And I love teaching and sharing new things. It’s a couple months away, so I will post about it when the time gets closer so that all of my Utah readers can set your DVRs and TVo’s.
Chanel 4. Good Things Utah. July 27th.

I have had several requests from people that would like to learn a couple of techniques that they have seen on my cakes. I thought about posting some tutorials but then I thought I could one-up that. I am in the works of recording some videos that I’ll be posting on YouTube. It will be a few weeks before they will be ready to go, but I was so excited about the idea that I had to share. I have plans to share my quilting technique that was done on my Ultimate Cake Off cake for the first video. If you have any special requests, now is the time. Let me know what you would like to see, and it might be a future video.

Every once in a while, I Google my name to see what comes up. Well, I found something today that I didn’t know about. There was an article written about me on Cache Valley Daily that I was not aware of. It was written back in March and talked about a Logan, Utah cake decorator (me) and her Ultimate Cake Off debut. I though it was a fun find. It’s fun to know that you’re being talked about (in a good way of course). Here’s the link to Cache Valley Daily.

So, my absence in blogging has been due to the weather. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. It has been so warm and sunny here, I just had to take advantage of it. We have been walking and riding bikes and sanding my kitchen cupboards. Yes, I am STILL working on it. It seems that whenever I go out to sand, the clouds rush in and we get a nice spring shower. I am determined to get them all finished this weekend though. That’s probably why Mother Nature decided to send the rain today and tomorrow.
This summer is already packed full with family, cakes, and classes. I hope to be able to fit in swimming, walks, bike riding and gardening with everything else that is going on. It’s all about balance.

It has been a week since I have blogged. I haven’t had much going on this week. I’m just working on paperwork and getting things organized for busy weeks ahead. Things are coming together really well for the gumpaste sugar class and I am in the process of working things out for the Fairy Cake class coming in August.
Aside from that, I have had a free week to work again on my kitchen remodel. Yes, I know it’s been weeks since I started. Cakes come up and things get put on hold. I’ll get this finished eventually. The weather is nice today, so I’ll be sanding more cupboards.
I had my photographer take pictures of the Star Trek cake that I did over the weekend. I know you’re all dying to see it, right? I’ll get them posted as soon as I can.

Today there are cake decorators all over the world that are baking away. Getting ready for the weekend events. There is no weekend for this profession. But I guess it makes up for the fact that we have the coolest jobs in the world. I love what I do. I hope all of you cake decorators out there are enjoying making your cakes. And I hope all of the cake clients out there appreciate the hard work that we do, and that your cake is tasty.
I love cake decorating!

Chances are that you have heard about Cake Centrals new magazine. The first issue came out last month featuring Kerry Vincent on the cover, and sold out quickly. The second issue is on it’s way out and will feature a cake of mine in the Trend section. I’m excited to see the magazine and I love the cake that I made. I hope you all get a chance to see it. If you don’t have a subscription to the magazine and would like one, or if you just want to purchase the second issue, you can go to Cake Central Magazine for more information.

Second Issue of Cake Central Magazine. Cake on cover by Ron Ben-Israel.
Correction: The second issue that is out now with Ron Ben-Israel’s cake on the cover is NOT the issue that my cake will be in. Mine will be in the next issue. This is the cover. It will be in the “Tie the Knot” section. Sorry for the confusion.
