Location and Classes Update

November 1st, 2010 by Amelia

For my Utah customers that are interested in a cake from Frosted Fantasy Cakes: We have moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Thank you for your interest and patronage. We love and will miss all of our clients.

As for any interested Las Vegas clients, we are in the process of figuring out the best way to set up our business in Las Vegas. Check back and we will try to keep you updated.

If you are interested in classes, we will be working on lining up classes in the Las Vegas area as well as in other places. We will keep you updated with upcoming classes.

We do have a class coming up on the 12th and 13th of November in Salt Lake City, Utah at Orson Gygi. It will be a two day class where you will learn about advanced cake structures and sculpting by creating an almost 3 foot tall fairy cake. For more information, check out my Classes page or go to the Orson Gygi Culinary Institute website.

Fairy Cake Class offered November 12 through the 13, 2010 at Orson Gygi in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Good Things Utah Segment

July 27th, 2010 by Amelia

Today I made an appearance on Good Things Utah. I had a great time. The whole news crew was very friendly and accommodating. I had a lot of fun and was able to announce a new class scheduled at Orson Gygi in Salt Lake City, Utah. It will be a two day class where we will sculpt a fairy using cake, modeling chocolate, advanced structures and much more. If you are interested in learning about how gravity defying cakes are made and being able to make your own, this class is it. For more information, check out my classes page.

For those of you that watched the Segment and want to see more on the fairy garden cupcakes that I demonstrated, I will have a blog about it coming out hopefully tomorrow.

Bridgerland Class

July 7th, 2010 by Amelia

Yesterday I was a guest instructor at Bridgerland Applied Technology College. It was a fun day. I was able to go and talk to the students and tell them my story and teach them a few things. My goal was to open their eyes to the cake decorating world and show them what can be done with cake, (it’s not just flour, sugar, and butter) and also show them how fun it can be. I think I was successful in that aspect. I hope the students enjoyed the class. I know I did. And a fun bonus was that they did a write-up on the class and put it on the front page of their website. So, If you want to hear more about the class, or if you want to see pictures, you can go check out the article on the  BATC website.

Guest Instructing at Bridgerland’s Culinary School

July 1st, 2010 by Amelia

A couple weeks ago, I got a phone call from the culinary instructor at our local college. He found out that I lived in Logan and asked me if I could come and make an appearance. So, I will be demonstrating and even doing a little hands-on instructing at Bridgerland on the 6th of July. It’s a technical college here in Logan, Utah.  I find it exciting to be a guest instructor at a culinary school. Especially since I have never had the opportunity to attend a culinary school. I guess that hard work and personal study has done well for me.

For the hands-on part, I’ll be teaching the students how to chocolate wrap a cake and how to make a couple things out of modeling chocolate. It should be a fun class.

Judging the Eastern Idaho State Fair

May 25th, 2010 by Amelia

September 3rd and 4th are the dates for the Eastern Idaho State Fair. The fair has had a cake decorating competition for several years. It has grown quite a bit over the last couple of years and is making quite a showing in the Midwest. I was asked last year to be a judge of the competition and I will be returning this year to judge again. Along with the judging, there will be classes offered. There will be two other judges that will be teaching as well.

We are in the process of making things final and I will post the class as soon as I know the details. I do know that the class will be on the 4th of September and that it will involve gumpaste flowers. So, mark your calendars and come to the fair!

Just an update

May 13th, 2010 by Amelia

It has been a week since I have blogged. I haven’t had much going on this week. I’m just working on paperwork and getting things organized for busy weeks ahead. Things are coming together really well for the gumpaste sugar class and I am in the process of working things out for the Fairy Cake class coming in August.

Aside from that, I have had a free week to work again on my kitchen remodel. Yes, I know it’s been weeks since I started. Cakes come up and things get put on hold. I’ll get this finished eventually. The weather is nice today, so I’ll be sanding more cupboards.

I had my photographer take pictures of the Star Trek cake that I did over the weekend. I know you’re all dying to see it, right? I’ll get them posted as soon as I can.

Another Class Update

April 19th, 2010 by Amelia

Things in the class department are going quite a bit slower than I had anticipated. I apologize for the long drawn out process. I should have gone through all of the negotiations before announcing things. I do have pending dates though. They may change if the location changes, but we will do our best to keep these dates.

June 10th- Gumpaste Flower Class

August 27-28th- Sculpted Fairy Cake Class

I have had to drop everything for a special project this week (more on that if it works out). So, I will hopefully have everything finalized within the next week or two. Thank you for your patience with me. I know the classes will be great!

Update on Classes

April 1st, 2010 by Amelia

This post is to inform everyone that my classes have all been cancelled.

APRIL FOOLS

I actually have a little of an update to the classes. I have a class outline for two classes to be held in Salt Lake City. I will post the outlines and pricing as soon as I get the location tied down. But in the mean time, here is a little idea of what the classes will be about.

Advanced Structure and Sculpting Class

I will teach how to make a cake STRUCTURE or “bones” as some call it. We will be making a fairy cake. She will be standing on a mushroom ready to take flight. It will be a fun 2 day class. You will learn SCULPTING with rice krispies, modeling chocolate, and cake as well as learning to create some cute small FLOWERS and FIGURES.

Advanced Gumpaste Flowers Class

I had originally intended for this class to be a beginner class, but I had such a huge request for a flower class that I decided that it needed to change. This class will be a one day class. I will be teaching several gumpaste flowers, leaves and embellishments and how to make a beautiful  arrangement with them.

Like I said, I will have more information as soon as I am sure about the location and dates. Thanks for the interest in my classes.

Ultimate Cake Off: Episode Guide Write-Up

March 20th, 2010 by Amelia

So I don’t think that I will make a habit of posting on weekends. I like to get a break. But I guess when there’s something fun to write about, why not?

First, I just wanted to say thanks for all of you wonderful students that made my class so fun. I had a great time and I hope you all had fun too. It was nice to see some familiar faces as well as a lot of new ones. I just love what I do. I get to play with sugar and hang out with really cool people. Who wouldn’t like that?

Also, I was informed that the write-up for my Ultimate Cake Off Episode has been posted on the TLC website. It’s a pretty fun write-up and I am SO excited to be able to watch the show in TWO DAYS! Go check out the write-up and be sure to tune in on Monday (March 22nd). It will be “the most intense Ultimate Cake Off ever!”

To read about my episode, scroll to the bottom to Episode 8!
